In the world of entertainment, a lot can transpire and change the lives of many. As a public figure, whether it is positive or negative – you are in the eyes of the public. Your life is everyone’s entertainment!
This was a big lesson that Mohale Motaung has had to endure through, especially when it came to his public relationship with his former partner, Somizi Mhlongo.
A Showmax Original titled “Mohale: On the Record“, a tell-all interview between Mohale Motaung and Aldrin Sampear, host of “Unfiltered” on SABC 3 and the drive time show “Beyond The Headline” on SAFM, will premiere on 4 August 2022, first on Showmax.
As Aldrin says, “As a queer person, their union has been a celebration of what many would love to achieve but, because of societal norms, have struggled to. Some of us even lived our fantasies through their love story and became invested in it.”
Sadly, their relationship wasn’t the fairytale union it seemed. This became clear when the audio of an off-the-record interview with Mohale was leaked in August 2021, including allegations of how Somizi physically abused him.
Much has been said about the impact of these allegations on Somizi, who took time off from Idols and Metro FM as a result, but is now back on the cover of True Love this month and sharing his side of the story in Living the Dream With Somizi S5 on Showmax.
However, much less has been said about how the alleged abuse, the leak, and the pending divorce has impacted Mohale.
“This sit-down is an opportunity to hear Mohale’s version of their union, and now, its cracks,” says Aldrin.
“A lot has been said about me, both true and untrue,” says Mohale.
“I initially had no intentions to publicly speak of the events that have occurred, due to an agreement I had with the other parties involved. But when the agreement was dishonoured by the other party, it became paramount that I tell my truth as I know it. With all the misinformation in the public domain, it is my responsibility to correct any propaganda as I represent not only myself, but those that may have experienced a story similar to mine. I would also like people to truly get to know me for who I am, as opposed to who they have assumed me to be.”
“Having told the story of the wedding, we wanted to explore everything that followed,” says Candice Fanguiero, head of content at Showmax. “Living The Dream With Somizi S5 is currently the most popular title on Showmax but it’s just one perspective, so we’re now adding Mohale’s voice so he can speak for himself in this special.”
All we can really do is only await with baited breath for this tell all and hear Mohale’s version of events. This documentary is sure to create waves amongst many.
Mohale: On the Record is being produced by Teddy Geldart’s Dopezuluboi Productions (2021 SAFTA nominee Lebo M: Coming Home and S5 of Living The Dream With Somizi).
International Singer, Songwriter and Author superstar Kelly Rowland has partnered up with alcoholic brand Brutal Fruit for their latest campaign titled “You Belong“.
The “You Belong” campaign speaks on the empowerment of women, reminding them of the power they posses in the environment they exist in and how they can manoeuvre around to be greater.
To further unpack this momentous occasion, according to Brutal Fruit, the advertisement is about “Women, for women, It’s the heart of who we are as Brutal Fruit Spritzer and a reminder that you are more powerful than you think.”
A notion that Rowland can gladly testify to, as she is a beautiful example of how to overcome several adversities and become a powerhouse for all to marvel at.
All we can say is that the mystery has finally been resolved after many were quite confused as to what the superstar was doing in South Africa. We can’t wait to see more of these beautiful moments that Brutal Fruit will have in store for us.

Launched in 2020, popular music showcase “Shanya’na ngeWhite Star” meaning “shine with white star” kept everyone entertained during Covid, is back for a third season.
To add flavour to this year’s campaign, it is kicking off with two live and exclusive musical experiences, the first in Johannesburg on 12 May followed by Durban on 21 May. These live events will be followed by a 13-week series on Metro FM, which will be live streamed on social media and will also give fans the opportunity to win R5000 cash prize per episode.
The Metro FM campaign will again feature 13 of the freshest talent to come out of Mzansi, including the hip and happening Kekelingo, Nomfundo Mo, Zuko SA and many more. And, as in the first two seasons, it will give fans an opportunity to follow their performances on social media.
“White Star has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with local artists,” says Mokhele Makhothi, the Marketing Manager of South Africa’s leading maize meal brand.
“During the various phases of lockdown, we wanted to extend that support by creating an opportunity for local artists to partake in the campaign and earn income, while also to lightening the mood in the country. The initiative has been so successful that we’ve decided to continue with it, giving new talent a national platform and keeping fellow South Africans entertained and close to the heart of local music.” Makhothi explains.
The first Shay’na nge White Star experience, which kicked off in September 2020, featured a sponsorship of Metro FM’s Sunday Soul Therapy with Msizi Shembe. During the #Shay’na ngeWhite Star hour, the station played only local music and but also gave local musicians an opportunity to re-connect with their fans through live streaming of their performances on social media.
Some of the top-charting hitmakers to benefit from this include the likes of Langa Mavuso, Ami Faku, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Simmi, Encore, Soul Kulture, Ayanda Jiya, Zarcia, Mlindo, Manana, Karabo, Nomcebo, Zoe Modiga and Mpho Sebina.
Now in an extended format, Shay’na nge White Star will continue to boost local artists and provide an exciting and engaging experience for fans. At each musical experience, lucky fans will get to be part of the live audience and to meet their favourite artists – with all Covid-related protocols observed!
“As always, musicians and singers will benefit from being featured on the playlists as well as from the streaming and downloads of their music,” says Makhothi. “The idea behind the campaign is that the more South Africans listen to and support local music, the more local content will be played on radio and TV, helping all our favourite artists to emerge from the dry season caused by Covid.”
White Star has been a supporter of the local music industry right from the start. Since 1999, music has been an integral part to White Star’s identity, with the brand being aligned with popular music shows such as Macufe, DrumBeat and the Moretele Park Tribute Concert.
Makhothi explains “With this initiative, we are also appealing to other stations to add more South African content to their playlists and for TV shows to feature videos and live performances by local artists. Music is woven into our culture and every show, every streaming and every download will contribute towards keeping our vibrant and exceptional music industry afloat.”
Makhothi also adds “Shay’na ngeWhite Star was created to bring the beat back into our lives at a very difficult time in our history and we aim to take that momentum forward now. We’re inviting all South Africans to share in the experience, to move to the beat and to shine. Local is lekker. Let’s celebrate that!”
“Housemates, are you ready?“ a familiar call that gorgeous Tik Toker, English Teacher and Thespian, Yolanda Glover better known to us as ‘Yoli’ became accustomed to, in South Africa’s reality show “Big Brother Mzansi“.
Being behind the camera and beguiling your audience with your charming personality is not an easy task, however it is doable but it’s another ball game when you are a contestant of a massive reality show, as we bear witness to your true character unraveling day by day.
Although as a society, we had been entertained by it all, it gave us all a greater understanding of who Yoli is truly about and how she was able to manage the situations that she was in.
Though the reality show has since thus ended, the creative has been able to focus on what truly matters in her life, giving us a glimpse of her world and what elements play a significance in it. Let’s share a moment with the fabulous ‘Yoli’.
What are three (3) lessons you would say you learnt from Big Brother?
Lesson 1: Patience I’ve always been a rather patient person, but there were several times in the house where my patience was tested, and not having the ability to control things that happen in the environment you’re in, really teaches you a level of patience you never knew you had.
Lesson 2: Conflict Resolution
Every conflict can be resolved with effective communication
Lesson 3: Be present
With so much going on in the big brother house it’s easy to get lost in moments, almost lose yourself, I learned to recoil into myself and be present and aware of my surroundings.
After being on the show, how has it changed your life?
The hardest change I’d say is you lose a sense of privacy when you’re in the public eye, people almost feel entitled to know everything about you and have opinions too.
You and Norman were extremely close on the show, are you still just as close even outside the show?
We’re super close, even more so outside of the house – we’ve been able to grow a lifelong relationship.
Being a thespian, are there any plans for you to go into acting in the near future?
Yes, the theatre arts are a passion of mine, so I’ll definitely be going into that soon.
What is the one thing that people don’t know about you?
I’m a polyglot, which means I have the ability to speak, learn and pick up various languages easily.
For people who are of your stature and need a confidence boost to appreciate their body. What would be your advice to them? Also, where do you get you get your confidence from?
My advice is to spend more time with your body in its rawest form, stare at yourself, you have to shift your mindset to see your flaws as beautiful, society taught us to hate our bodies, if one can teach hate, one can also be taught love, combat self hate , by loving yourself fiercely and unapologetically.
‘How do I have so much confidence?’ I do a lot of positive affirmations every morning.
For anyone who would like to enter Big Brother in future, what would your advice be to them?
Stay focused, don’t feel pressured to change who you are to suit those around you, make sure you have the right intentions for entering.
What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’m a Tiktoker , I love the fun and freedom that app provides, I also like being outdoors in nature and reading.
What can we expect from you in future?
Expect the unexpected! There are many different sides and talents to Yoli, and I’m looking forward to you guys discovering it all.
From the lessons and blessings learnt from her journey on “Big Brother“, “expect the unexpected” is a wonderful way to describe how we can all anticipate greatness from Yoli, who we are sure will give what our hearts truly desires from her.

Lamontville born record label founder, DJ and Producer Thuthuka Zindlovu, popularly known as ‘Dlala Thukzin’, will be having his first “one-man concert” on 01 May 2022 at Berea Rovers near Kings Park Stadium.
Not only will this be his first time to achieve such within his career but this historic moment is quite massive for the city of Durban. This is definitely a treat that many should not miss out on!
As a person who is a firm believer in collaborating with others, he will not be alone as other magnificent artists will be present at the “one man concert”, these include: Babes Wodumo, Mampintsha, Kweyama Brothers, Zaba, DJ Tira, Wobbly, Junior De Rocka, Distruction Boyz, Sithelo, Dladla Mshunqisi, Lvovo and many more fantastic artists who will be apart of this historic event.
While the excitement is definitely in the air for all of this, many cannot forget about the devastating floods that took place across the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal. As a result of this, many lives were lost and people have been displaced through losing their homes.
Through the plea to assist those who have lost quite a lot through the KZN flooding, Dlala Thukzin and his team have asked people to donate what they can to help alleviate the situation taking place in the province.
“I am excited for this historic moment as it is quite a big achievement for me within my career. Aside from all of this, I want to help those that have suffered immensely from the KZN flooding, through this event I wish to achieve that!” he explains.
It is only a matter of time till the City of Durban gets to experience the Dlala Thukzin “One Man Concert” and it would be big mistake for one not to be present at this momentous occasion.
We spy with our little eyes on someone that will not only entertain guests but keep them locked on their screens after all the crazy drama and precious memories spent. Something starting with “D”!
If your answer was Comedian Donovan Goliath – who will be hosting the reunion of the Real Housewives Of Durban which wraps up with a two-part reunion on 6 and 13 May 2022, then you definitely deserve a badge of honour!
“I’ve always been intrigued by this concept and this show,” says Donovan, a well-known comedian, presenter, MC and facilitator, who also acts in the hit film ‘One Night Kwa Mxolisi’. “I was excited to host the reunion because I really wanted to meet the wives and get to know more about this world from them.”
Quite exciting times ahead as this is a heavily anticipated reunion amongst many!
“Donovan was the perfect host because he came with the right amount of humour, the right amount of compassion, and the right amount of love for all of the ladies and the storylines on The Real Housewives of Durban,” says Let It Rain Films executive producer Sam Kelly. “Some divides are going to be cemented and some bridges are going to be built, so it’s a great reunion.”
Season 2 topped Twitter regularly on Friday throughout its run, with stars Annie, Jojo, LaConco, Londie, Mabusi, MaKhumalo, Nonku, and Sorisha also trending. As Zalebs says, the show “never ceases to amaze the viewers” and is “nothing short of sassy, glamorous and dramatic.”
With no The Real Housewives of Durban for fans last Friday, The Real Housewives of Lagos took centre stage, trending in both Nigeria and South Africa. Carolyna’s bohemian-inspired dinner party went from 0-100 real quick, with Carolyna and Laura getting into a heated argument about Laura’s sister, blogger Linda Ikeji, who Carolyna blamed in part for the breakdown of her marriage. New episodes drop every Friday, to fill that Durban-sized hole in fans’ hearts (and Twitter timelines).
If it’s not the superb sunshine, it’s the warm and friendly aura that Durban has to offer. Opening it’s doors to the public, Cuba Premium day club (situated in SHOP 1, Moses Mabhida Stadium) has certainly encapsulated those aspects with minimal effort.
The launch of the day club hosted a variety of familiar faces from Durban talented DJ and Producer, Dlala Thukzin, DreamTeam’s, Saso Ngcobo & Trey Sineke, the beautiful DJ Sithelo Shozi, brilliant songstress Skyewanda, ex Big Brother Mzansi S3 Housemates Bu Luthando & Yolanda Glover with reality TV star and presenter Ruan Scheepers and many others who embraced their presence to make the event more special.
Setting the tone of the launch, the audience was treated to likes of the pioneers of Amapiano, DJ and producer Kabza De Small, the ‘Adiwele’ hit maker – Young Stunna, as well as Touch of Soul, Stanky DeeJay and Gqom duo Distruction Boyz, just to name a few.
What a wonderful way to say hello to South Africa’s playground!

Iconic Multidisciplinary American Artist, Tina Fey once said “Say yes and figure it out afterwards!”. An affirmation that talented Multidisciplinary South African artist Lerato Sokhulu lives by each and everyday. From doing voice overs for international organisations, to strutting her stuff through her plus sized modelling journey, all this directs to how she is extremely talented at what she does.
However, what she currently enjoys with a passion and delves into her life’s calling is being a comedian.
Currently, she is the host of “Selective Live Comedy”, a platform which gives female comedians an opportunity to showcase their work through comedy. This has given her a new lease on life and shown her, that the world is truly her oyster. Truthfully speaking, all we can do is sit in awe and watch her phenomenal magic unravel right in front of our eyes.
You have done radio, voice overs and now are onto comedy! What was the decision that made you want to take this route?
Well I’ve always been the funny kid in school and I always got the funny roles. At home and at work I’m the one that makes everyone laugh. In 2019, I became really frustrated with my creative 9-5, And whilst hosting the Shnit film festival, I threw in a couple of jokes. In the audience was Dr John Kani and Comedian/filmmaker, Kagiso Lediga (who is also one of my faves).
They were in stitches the whole time. And Kagiso never just laughs you know! After the show, Dr Kani congratulated me and Kagiso asked me what I did. When I told him I worked for Afternoon Express, he told me to quit because I belonged on stage. Two months later I quit my job and I did my first open mic. It was like I had been a comedian all my life. I knew then that all the jobs and career paths I took were all leading me to this gift of comedy.
You are the host of “Selective Live Comedy” and you seem to be amongst female comedians, please kindly unpack this platform and how it has assisted you thus far in your journey?
Well after I started doing comedy, I met so many great women comedians ( I hate that I have to gender comedy but for this purpose I will), I noticed that there weren’t many shows that women headlined. Also, nobody would mention anything about payment.
Even if the gig didn’t make money I would still like to know the numbers since I was a part of the line up. A friend of mine, Mafiyana, who co- owns a venue called “Selective Live”, approached me to do a show there and I decided that I would only get women comedians, not because I don’t like males or whatever but because I want to see more women headlining shows. Also because nobody asks men when they have all male line ups, so why are we being asked?
Would you say that there is a need for more female comedians?
Need? There are so many and it’s a pity they don’t get the same hype as men. However, we’re getting there. I hope other comedians who identify as women are inspired to get on that stage from my show. Women have such diverse opinions about life that I feel need to be heard as well.
What’s the one thing that you enjoy about being a comedian and what is the one that you don’t enjoy?
I enjoy the jokes that come to me whilst I’m on stage from interacting with the audience. There’s nothing I don’t enjoy about comedy. I love every part of it!
Earlier we touched on how you do voice overs and radio. On top of that you do plus sized modelling and infomercials. How do you manage all of your time and how did you get into these different sectors?
At some point I’m going to need a team to help me manage my schedule, lol. Currently I have 3 agents, luckily they don’t book me on the same days. I just have to communicate with them what I’m doing . It’s getting to a point where the schedules are clashing but I always figure it out. I’m a multi-disciplinary artist , and I am exploring all my talents . I studied producing and acting. Then when I got into radio I got into copywriting. I should have had one agent to be honest, but when I joined them I had one idea of what I wanted to do and over time I evolved and some of my agents didn’t cater to my all of my talents. So now I have three.
What do you feel the creative industry needs more of in order to be supportive of all creatives?
We need institutions like banks and housing sectors to cater for our needs. It’s so hard trying to get a flat or a loan because we are considered high risk. It’s doesn’t make sense because when the money is good, IT’S GOOD! So, why do they ignore us or treat us like our jobs aren’t important??
What is the biggest lesson and achievement you have done within your whole career?
Don’t limit yourself. Try anything once. If you come across a stumbling block, it’s okay to re-group and start again. Grow everywhere you are and be consistent! Lastly, it’s okay to change your mind.
In terms of my achievements, they are as follows:
– Being nominated for ‘Best night time radio’ at the Liberty radio awards 2018.
– Taking the plunge and moving to Cape Town.
– My project ‘In Tongues’ being selected at the Durban Film Mart and me being selected as an emerging Film Producer at the Durban Film Mart institute.
– Doing a voice over for BBC lifestyle and other UK companies.
– Being handpicked by Bee Diamond head for a Woolworths advert.
– Selling out my own comedy show on the first night and being able to pay other comedian.
You spent quite a lot of time in Durban and felt that you needed to spread your wings, has that worked out in your favour or is there more you wish that needs to be done?
I left Durban because I felt like I had reached the ceiling . Durban doesn’t cater for freelancers just yet. There aren’t enough agencies and production companies. Moving has worked in my favor and I have grown tremendously in my career. I don’t only work on South African productions any more. I’m tapping into the UK market as well. More agencies and production companies are needed in Durban. The talent and landscape are there, but companies are going to Joburg or Durban for talent.
As a creative, there are times you will feel down and out, in your view, what has been the one element that has consistently made you motivated and learn to carry on with your craft?
My family , my close friends and my boyfriend are the people I check in with when I feel down – they ride for me hard! A solid support system is what has helped me carry on and believe in what I’m doing .
What is the one thing you would advise a creative to do in order to be great at their craft?
Keep doing it. Learn everything!
What else can we expect from you in future?
Oh man! There’s a lot of exciting things happening. I just got a cameo role on a popular series on Netflix. (That’s all I can say about it).
I’m also preparing for a one man comedy show and I hope to get back on radio again!
You can’t help but fall in love with Lerato’s ability to not only empower herself to make her dreams come true but help others as well, it gives a sense of ubuntu – a trait that many thought no longer existed. All we can say is that we are excited to see more from the rising superstar.
